A Transport Planning Engineer with 18 years’ experience in Civil Engineering, road development, road maintenance, transport planning, traffic management, Road safety and public transport.
Currently the General Manager of Safe Way Right Way Initiative Uganda an NGO focused on improving Road Safety in Uganda. Under her leadership, the institution prides in spearheading the implementation of many road safety initiatives that include policy reviews and updates, school road safety education projects, motorcycle safety education trainings, mass media campaigns, promotion of safe Non mototrised transport infrastructure inclusion in the Kampala and other cities as well as participating in public transport reforms.
Has knowledge in analysing and addressing gaps in the transport, mobility needs, road safety, auditing, challenges, public transport sector needs and analysing traffic congestion, designing for non-motorised transport corridors, identifying traffic challenges and counter measures and addressing the effects of motorisation like air pollution. Very passionate about realising safe walking and cycling spaces and seeks to promote the same as a way to make walking and cycling attractive for all.
She has been part of studies, panels and research to discuss the road map for Kampala in reducing transport related air quality effects, improving Road safety mobility in Kampala, re-organising paratransit modes in Kampala as a the road map to mass transit, Improving Road creating awareness for the pilot NMT corridor as a walking and cycling space, Discussing the effect of the pandemic lock down on the outlook of walking for transport in Kampala and the airquality benefits, and spear heading Non-motorised transport promotion activities in Kampala like the last two car free days in 2023 and 2024 respectively, Kampala monthly cycling days, the NMT corridor awareness campaign with World Resources Institute among others.
She is passionate about using her knowledge and skills in contributing to the transformation of Road transport from vehicle reliance to more equitable and sustainable mobility in Uganda and Africa at large. She seeks to learn from other cities that have had greater successes in achieving walkable cities on how to make walking for transport attractive to the high and middle income earners. The objective is to create a mode shift of those that can afford choose to walk for transport or as part of their daily commutes.
