Tirana Airport

Tirana’s Nënë Tereza (Mother Teresa) airport just 17km northwest of Tirana, is a 30 minute drive from the city Centre. For those who come to Tirana for the first time, there is a tourist information center, where everyone can find useful information about where and how to go. Beside the baggage carousel in arrivals there are ATMs, an exchange office, and a tourist information desk. You can also get a local e-sim card at the airport.

There are a few ways to get back to the city and the trip will take anywhere between 20 to 45 minutes.

Airport Shuttle: The LUNA Airport Shuttle runs every hour from the airport to the city center (behind the National Opera House), costing about 400 ALL (approx. 4 EUR) and is available for purchase on this link.  This bus line offers 24 hour service 7 days a week. At the airport the bus is located at the exit on the left in the parking lot ahead of you. In Tirana the bus is stationed behind the Palace of Culture.

Taxi: Official airport taxis are available at the arrivals area. The standard fare to the city is around 20–25 euros, but if you book in advance, the price will be lower. We recommend booking on WhatsApp before landing in order to benefit from lower fees from 10 to 15 euros. A few suggestions are: Green TaxiClean Taxi,  Grand Tax or Blue Taxi

Ride apps: Local ride-hailing services such as SpeedTaxi, Ups Taxi, and Taxi.al also operate from the airport and can be booked via app.

For your stay during the conference, it’s easy to exchange money in Tirana. The local currency is the Albanian lek (ALL), and euros are widely accepted for exchange. You’ll find numerous exchange offices throughout the city center, many within walking distance of the venues and hotels. Rates are generally fair, and no commission is typically charged. ATMs are also widely available if you prefer to withdraw lek or euros directly with your bank card.
