MOVING AROUND

Roaming Tirana

We’ve said it a few times now!

Tirana is a lively, human-scaled city that’s best experienced on foot. With a growing network of pedestrian zones, shaded boulevards, and public plazas, walking is often the easiest and most enjoyable way to move between neighborhoods. The city center is compact, and most major destinations—including the Pyramid, the University of Arts, Skanderbeg Square, and the famous Blloku district—are within a 10–20 minute walk from each other. Hint, that is some of the reason we selected our venues!

For longer distances

Tirana offers a reliable and affordable public bus network that connects key parts of the city. Tickets can be purchased on board, and route maps are available at major stops and online. Taxis are widely available, relatively inexpensive, and can be hailed on the street or through local apps. More details in the following section.

Cycling is also growing in popularity, and the city has introduced more bike lanes in recent years. Visitors can rent bikes or e-scooters from several local providers to explore the city with added flexibility. For those with accessibility needs, most central sidewalks are smooth and low-curbed, though not all older areas are fully barrier-free.

Tirana’s relaxed pace, friendly residents, and walkable design make getting around part of the experience itself. Whether you’re heading to a session, stopping for coffee, or exploring the city’s vibrant cultural scene, you’ll find that moving around is not just easy—it’s part of what makes Tirana special.

Entertainment

Does not fall behind in a city that never sleeps, and that is as noisy as it is pleasant, where one always gets the feeling of being active.  The bars and restaurants full of young people give the metropolis a liveliness and freshness making the city a dynamic and attractive one.

Helpful Apps for Navigating Tirana

Tirana is becoming increasingly digital-friendly, with several apps designed to make moving around the city easier. The official Tirana Ime (“My Tirana”) app, offered by the municipality, provides real-time information on public services, traffic updates, road closures, and even cultural events happening around the city. For taxis, while international ride-hailing apps like Uber or Bolt don’t operate in Albania, local services such as UPS Taxi and Speed Taxi have their own easy-to-use apps, allowing users to book rides, track drivers, and pay directly through the platform. Additionally, Google Maps works well for walking and public transport routes, and apps like Moovit can help navigate the local bus system. Whether you’re walking, catching a bus, or calling a cab, these apps help make your stay in Tirana smooth and connected.

Here’s a curiosity you might enjoy: Tirana and our partners at GIZ Albania recently gave its city bus a full makeover—not just new paint, but a full-on name, logo, colors, and vibe. It’s the first time a public service in Albania got the branding treatment, and honestly, it looks pretty cool. Take a peek here if you’re one for public service experience.
