Yuma TSUMURA is a Japanese urban and transport planner for emerging and developing countries and also a PhD student in Institute of Science Tokyo, Japan. His research interests center on transport equity, participatory mobility planning, and the role of infrastructure in fostering sustainable urban development globally.

Alongside his doctoral studies, he has worked as a development consultant, contributing to transport and mobility planning projects across Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Sub-Saharan Africa through international cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Currently, his research explores the intersection of mobility and social equity in rapidly urbanizing contexts, with a particular emphasis on participatory approaches such as Tactical Urbanism. He has been actively involved in initiatives to improve mobility with local communities in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, focusing on how bottom-up interventions can empower communities and shape inclusive mobility policies.
